Sustainable Autumn Fashion Staples
As autumn unfurls its vibrant tapestry of colors here in New England, I’ve been reflecting on my recent wardrobe updates and the journey toward a more sustainable fashion approach. This season, I’ve embraced the concept of a capsule wardrobe—an intentional collection of classic, versatile pieces that not only simplify dressing but also being mindful and sustainable. By investing in high-quality, timeless items from brands like Reformation, Everlane, Sézane, Quince, The Real Real, and ALOHAS, I’ve discovered how thoughtful choices in fashion can make a significant difference.
The Power of a Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is more than just a trend; it's a strategic approach to curating your closet. The idea is to focus on a smaller number of high-quality, versatile pieces that you love and can mix and match throughout the season. This method not only helps reduce decision fatigue but also minimizes waste by encouraging mindful consumption. Instead of buying into fleeting trends, a capsule wardrobe is about selecting items that stand the test of time, both in style and durability.
Why Fabrics and Quality Matter
One of the key elements of a sustainable wardrobe is the quality of the fabrics. Sustainable brands like Reformation and Everlane prioritize materials that are better for the environment. For instance, many of their pieces are made from organic cotton, recycled fibers, or innovative eco-friendly fabrics. These materials often have a lower environmental impact compared to conventional options.
Opting for high-quality fabrics means investing in pieces that are not only kinder to the planet but also more durable. A well-made garment can withstand frequent wear and washing, which extends its lifespan and reduces the need for replacements. This shift towards durability is crucial for sustainability, as it minimizes the amount of clothing that ends up in landfills.
Timeless, Classic Pieces
When building a sustainable wardrobe, focusing on timeless pieces is essential. Classic designs—like a well-fitted blazer, a cozy knit sweater, or a versatile pair of ankle boots—transcend seasonal trends and can be styled in various ways. Brands like Sézane and Quince excel in offering items that embody this classic elegance, ensuring that you’ll enjoy wearing them for years to come.
The beauty of investing in timeless pieces lies in their versatility. A neutral-colored sweater or a tailored coat can be dressed up or down, layered or worn solo, making them perfect for different occasions and weather conditions. This adaptability not only maximizes the value of each piece but also supports a more sustainable fashion cycle by reducing the impulse to buy new items for every occasion.
Investing in Brands That Prioritize Sustainability
The brands I’ve turned to—Reformation, Everlane, Sézane, Quince, and ALOHAS—are leaders in the movement toward more sustainable fashion. Each of these companies is committed to ethical practices, transparency, and reducing their environmental impact. For instance, ALOHAS uses sustainable materials in their footwear, and Quince focuses on high-quality basics made from responsibly sourced fabrics.
By supporting these brands, you’re not only investing in beautiful, timeless clothing but also contributing to a larger effort to make the fashion industry more sustainable. It’s about making informed choices that align with your values and encourage a shift towards more responsible consumption.
Conclusion
As we embrace the autumn chill and celebrate the changing leaves, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on our wardrobe choices. Building a capsule wardrobe with classic, high-quality pieces from sustainable brands is a powerful way to align your style with your values. It’s about more than just fashion; it’s about making choices that support a healthier planet and a more thoughtful approach to consumption.
By focusing on timeless pieces and investing in quality fabrics, we not only create a wardrobe that stands the test of time but also contribute to a more sustainable fashion future. Here’s to a season of smart choices, enduring style, and a commitment to a greener, more beautiful world.
Sweaters
This might be my favorite sweater I have ever purchased. The cardigan comes in several different colors, but I love the western feel that the black and white crochet trim has with this one!
I picked up these cashmere sweaters in a couple of colors. You cannot beat the price for the quality!
Dresses
I had been eyeing this dress for awhile, and actually almost purchased it in white back in the spring for our lawless design shoppe opening party. I don't wear much color, but when I do, red is my absolute favorite. This will be a staple dress in my wardrobe for a long time!
Shoes
I bought these in black last year and I was obsessed! I decided to get a burgundy patent leather pair this year. I think this is the piece I'm most excited to style.
Whenever I purchase designer pieces, I always buy them second had. I have a couple of Prada bags, but don't have any shoes by them. I think these are the perfect staple suede fall boots. They are the perfect height with a little heel.
Here are a couple of other suede boots I love.

Let me know what pieces are your favorite!
