Projects We are Doing Around Our LD Cape Home Right Now
We are taking this extra time at home to get some projects done! Here's our to-do list for the upcoming weeks.
Converting Our Porch Into a Patio
I came home the other day to Mike demoing our back porch. This thing was completely rotted out, so we definitely needed to do something about it. Since we are planning to do an addition in the years to come, we didn't want to spend a lot of money on the space. There were already some pavers under the rotted wood, so it was pretty simple for Mike to cut off the wood and take the joists down.
Renovating Our Bathroom
Man, we have been talking about this for a long time! We have been waiting to do this project when it got warm out so that we would be able to utilize our outdoor shower. This will be our biggest project to date, so we will be working on this for a while!
Converting Our Extra Closet
We have this random closet outside of our downstairs powder room that I've just been using as fabric storage. I have an idea to convert it into a little nook for Mike and make him an office space, but.....he's not really keen on having a desk. He apparently just likes working on the sofa. So guys, help me out and give me some tips on what to do with this extra space! We don't need the extra storage there. My dad mentioned that we should turn the powder room into a full bath, but I don't really see the point. We use the extra room off the living room as my office, and then the other three bedrooms are upstairs. So, we don't need a shower in there. Basically, I'm stumped and would love some advice here!
Clearing Out Our Wardrobes
Okay, so I actually did this a couple of months ago, but never sold the clothes! I'm FINALLY sending our clothes back to Thred Up so we can get rid of all of them! I'm much more of a minimalist and like having less clothes and more staple items.
Starting Our Garden
Last year was my first attempt at growing vegetables, and I do have to say, it went pretty well! We had two boxes and grew kale, chard, brussel sprouts, broccoli, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. This year I'm attempting at growing them from seeds! We have kale, spinach, broccoli rabe, beets, wheatgrass, cucumbers, chia seeds, tomatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, green beans, snap peas, and watermelon! I'm going to get strawberries and all the fresh herbs, but I'll just buy though as plants. I love the fact that we get fresh, organic fruits and veggies for months! Not to mention that it's sustainable, too.
Building a New Media Console
Mike and I designed a mid-century modern media console table about a year back. Mike is custom-making this sucker out of unsteamed walnut that he got from one of our neighbors. I cannot wait to see how this comes out!
Updating Our Kitchen Fireplace
I hate hate hate the fireplace in the kitchen. Don't get me wrong, I love having a fireplace there, it makes the room nice and cozy. BUT I hate the awkward staggered bricks and the terrible white painted mantel with weird trim. I love the brick, so we are just going to extend the brick to be squared. Mike has a wood beam from his family's barn that we are going to use as the mantel.
Let me know the projects you're doing around your home!
xx
