My Daily Skincare Routine
My skincare routine has changed A LOT throughout the years. I had acne growing up that I mean, wasn't the worst, but it definitely felt like it. Even into my mid twenties I struggled! I have combination skin, and this time of year is always up in the air with the seasons changing.
You guys might know that over the last few years I've switched to non-toxic skincare, which has been an amazing change! The only downside is that there are SO many products out there that claim to be "better" and I've tried many, many of them. Some have proven amazing, and some not so great. After all of my struggles over the years, I have finally nailed down my skincare routine and I wanted to share all of this with you. If you've been looking to switch over to clean skincare, but either haven't tried yet or have and haven't had any luck finding good products, I hope you find this post helpful!
It can be tough to want to switch over to clean skincare for a few reasons. One being the sheer number of products to sift through, and two being that most products are really expensive. I for one am pretty frugal and hate spending money when I don't need to. I've made exceptions in the past and purchased luxurious products thinking that these little glass jars of magic would take all my worries away in one go. And yeah, we all know that's simply not the case. I wanted to help you guys out and share my go-to products that I've been testing and using for several months now, in hopes that it saves you all some time and money!
I'll preface this by saying that I have combination skin (oily T-zone and normal everywhere else) and sensitive skin that is prone to acne if I use the wrong products. Let's take coconut oil, for example. WHY IS IT IN SO MANY CLEAN SKINCARE PRODUCTS?! I bought the RMS coconut oil makeup remover a couple of years ago, and my skin totally broke out and I couldn't figure out why. I researched coconut oil only to find out that it can clog your pores. So, if you have sensitive skin like me, maybe stay away from that! In the past I've had some acne scarring, so I like to use some products that fade dark spots (my scars are gone now but I continue using it as a preventive measure in case I do get the occasional pimple). Being in my late twenties, I am also starting to be cognitive of aging and I've been reaching for products that are anti-aging and brightening. I don't use an eye cream, because I believe that they are more of a glorified moisturizer. Sometimes I will use my argan oil and put a tiny bit on the corners of my under-eyes if they feel dry.
Okay, onto my routine we go!
Morning
Cleanser
I am in love with this cleanser. It is definitely worth the price tag. My face has been completely clear since using it and it actually is brighter! What a wild time to be alive.
Cleansing tool
I only use the silicone brush on this. It helps get the cleanser deep into your pores without harming your skin. You can save 40% using my code!
Serum
This little guy has been great for my acne and pores. It has also helped cut down on the oiliness of my skin.
Moisturizer
I love moisturizers that absorb well into your skin and don't just sit on it and make your face feel greasy. This does just that. It is supposed to help with wrinkles, too. Now, I don't have any yet (praise Jesus!), so I can't speak to if it works on that end. But, I will say it's a great product nonetheless.
Tool
I wish I could say that I use this everyday, but yeah that doesn't happen. I use this a few times a week and I seriously notice a difference in the puffiness in my face right away!
SPF
If you do one thing for your skin, please wear SPF! I didn't for years and I totally regret it. No one wants wrinkles, guys.
Nightime
Oil Cleanser
I wear makeup only on days that I have meetings. It could be anywhere from 1-4 days a week, it is always changing. I don't ever wear a lot of makeup (do you guys want a makeup routine, too??). So, this is all I need. I take a little bit and rub it on my face without water. I then rinse it off and use my cleanser to remove the oil. Double-cleansing is key to getting all the makeup and dirt off of your face from the day! I never used to do this until about a year and a half ago and it makes all the difference. Also, please just don't use makeup wipes. They are a huge waste! We are trying to be more sustainable here, friends!
Cleanser
I use the same cleaner morning and night!
Cleansing tool
Don't forget the cleansing tool, too!
Serum
This serum is what I use for dark spots. Now again, I don't have them anymore, but I do like to use this just in case I do get a pimple every now and then.
Moisturizer
Yep, same moisturizer, too. We are not trying to break the bank with all different products!
Mask (2-3x a week)
Okay, so I totally do not do a mask everyday. I honestly just hate washing it off and just feeling like it takes so much time! What I love about this sleep mask is you just put it on after your moisturizer and you don't have to wash it off! Genius, if you ask me.
Mask (1x a week)
I do try to do a regular mask once a week. I love this mask. It just makes my skin feel oh, so smooth and soft afterwards. You get a nice glow from it, too!
Spot Treatment
When I do get the occasional pimple, I like to put this little spot treatment on it. You put it on for 20 minutes and then wipe it right off! Turmeric is great for toning down inflammation and this helps bring the redness down, too.
