Introducing Project Brick by Brick
We are thrilled to unveil our latest interior design project: "Brick by Brick," a stunning renovation of a charming 1900s home in Brookline. This project has been a labor of love, meticulously transforming a historic property into a modern sanctuary while honoring its vintage essence.
Embracing the Past, Innovating for the Future
Our journey began with a deep appreciation for the home's original character. Built over a century ago, this Brookline gem had seen its fair share of changes, but we saw its potential to blend timeless elegance with contemporary living. Our goal was to marry historical charm with modern comfort, all while adhering to wellness and sustainability principles.
Wellness at the Heart of Design
One of the core philosophies guiding this renovation was the integration of wellness practices. We believe that a home should be more than just a living space; it should be a sanctuary that promotes physical and mental well-being. To achieve this, we focused on natural materials and design elements that foster a serene and healthy environment.
Air Quality: We chose non-toxic paints and finishes and fabrics to ensure a clean and breathable indoor atmosphere.
Natural Light: Maximizing natural light was a priority, as it contributes to overall mood and energy levels. Large windows and strategic placements of mirrors help enhance daylight throughout the home.
Function: This was a vital element to the design. With a young family with two kids, they needed practical and functional storage along with finishes. We redesigned the layouts to work best for their needs.
Sustainability Meets Elegance
Sustainability was a central theme in the renovation process. We wanted to respect the history of the home while making choices that were kind to the environment. Our approach included:
Reclaimed Tiles: One of our favorite elements in this project is the use of reclaimed tiles. These unique pieces not only add a touch of vintage charm but also contribute to a lower environmental footprint by reducing waste and repurposing materials.
Vintage Lighting: Lighting played a crucial role in preserving the home’s character. We handpicked a collection of unique vintage lights that serve as both functional fixtures and captivating conversation pieces.
Highlights of the Renovation
The finished home is a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern sophistication. Here are some standout features:
Custom Millwork: This is one of our favorite things to design. Between the "peep hole" cabinets to the striped European wardrobes, we added in lots of unique storage solutions for the clients.
Living Finishes made to age: We love adding in organic materials that bring life to a space! We used a roman clay on the primary bedroom and bathroom walls. Other features were the unlacquered brass finishes along with the marble and soapstone countertops.
Project Brick by Brick stands as a testament to our commitment to creating spaces that are both beautiful and mindful of their impact. By blending historical appreciation with modern wellness and sustainability practices, we’ve crafted a home that respects its roots while looking towards the future. We hope this project inspires others to consider how thoughtful design choices can enhance both the environment and personal well-being.
Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes looks at our future projects! If you’re interested in transforming your space with a focus on wellness and sustainability, we’d love to hear from you.
