How to Mix Vintage + Modern Elements
Using vintage items in an otherwise modern or contemporary space is an incredible way to add texture, depth, charm and character. I am personally a big, big fan of mixing vintage with new.
There isn’t a specific science to striking a good balance between old and new, a lot of it is trial and error. However, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind if you’re wanting to add a little vintage into your mix.
One Common Element
My first tip is to find some common ground between your vintage and modern pieces, whether it be color, tone, similar pattern or material, etc.

Vintage Textiles
Vintage textiles really add depth and charm to your space, especially in the category of rugs and runners.

Start Small
If you have a very modern space, start small. Vintage accents would be a great place to start in this situation-- artwork, books, lamps, frames, side tables, etc.
Contrast + Mixing Materials
Contrast is a wonderful thing in this situation, and very much the point. You want your vintage pieces to add the depth and texture which can really balance out a more modern design scheme. Don’t be afraid to mix materials-- it’s totally okay to group things together that may not have the same finish, but that work together.
