Our client came to us with a classic Victorian style home. Their vision was to modernize it, without losing character. We worked on a two-phase project, starting with the kitchen and the main bedroom and bathroom.
The original kitchen layout was not functional or conducive to their lifestyle. We altered the existing layout to give the clients a seating area where their kids could eat. We wanted to bring warmth into the space, and we knew that oak cabinets would be the perfect touch mixed with a moodier veining stone.
Carpet was the flooring of choice in the existing bathroom. To create a functional space in the bedroom area, we added a walk-in closet before you enter the bathroom. The main bathroom is where the client wanted to bring in a little bit of funk and color. We chose a few handmade zellige tiles in various sizes and colors for this reason.
Downstairs, the entryway was painted a dark moody color and paired with terracotta tile flooring. The rest of the first floor is white oak. The entryway leads into the living room, where we added a fireplace and custom built-ins. The client moved to New England and really wanted a cozy New England feel in the room. We selected zellige tiles to correlate with the rest of the tiles in the home. The dining room is right off of the living room, where we added the same custom cabinets for extra storage.
The juxtaposition of pairing old architecture and modern furnishings gave us the end result of our Project Victorian Modern.
